Stockman speaking on behalf of the trio said “we really felt at home in Nigeria and Nigerians were humble and friendly. They are indeed our brothers and sisters.”
He commended the organisers, saying the “Feel the Spark” concerts in Abuja and Lagos were well organises, highly entertaining and very rich. “we will certainly love to come back to Nigeria,” he added.
Rejuvenated Boyz II Men, recently voted “most commercially successful R&B group of all time” were formed in 1988 at Philadelphia’s High School of the Creative and Performing Arts. Founding members Nathan Morris and Marc Nelson had been singing together for several years, but had trouble keeping a group together simply due to members graduating.
Things finally stabilised when they hooked up with Wanya Morris, Shawn Stockman and bass vocalist Michael McCary; calling themselves Unique Attraction, the quintet performed a well-received Valentine’s Day show for their school, and developed a repertoire that leaned heavily on New Edition songs one of which, is “Boys to Men,” which gave them their name. Their big break came in 1989, when they snuck backstage at a Bell Biv DeVoe concert and wowed group member Michael Bivins also formerly of New Edition and a budding music entrepreneur, with an acappella version of New Edition’s “Can You Stand in Rain.”
Boyz II Men gave a good account of themselves at Guinness Nigeria’s “Feel the Spark” valentine concerts in Abuja and Lagos on Friday and Saturday February 11 and 12.
In Abuja, love was really in the air, as Abike Dabiri, chairperson, House of Representatives Committee on Information led National Assembly members to the epoch-making event which took place at Nicon Hilton Hotel, Abuja.
Highly successful businessman, Isaac Okocha, said in an interview that he “had never seen such a huge crowd of fun-loving Nigerians at the Nicon Hilton Hotel. We really had fun,” he said.
